The hand rankings in the three card brag are entirely different from the three card poker. In the British brag, the highest hand is called a prial. This card combination is basically made up of three cards all having the same values. It is like the three-of-a-kind in poker. The hands rank the same as in all brag games, 3 card brag being the most popular. 3 x 3s is the highest hand as the whole game revolves around the number 3, 3 of a kind is known as a prial. The 3 card is only really important in a prial, a running flush or a run. Hands lower than this just play on face value. Is there a 'game mechanism' reason 3-3-3 is the highest 'Prial'? Why not 7-7-7? Given that, why isn't 3-3-A superior to A-A-3?

As for Bridge, I don't think it will die out.
Dormitories, graduate schools, military bases all have non-stop bridge games. Yachties always have a deck of cards though gin rummy seems to be the most popular game. Even a Panama Bingo game for Tupperware-like prizes had people with playing cards all night long, some of them playing bridge.
Things change. Been a long time since Faro was played but it was all over the American West and the Hollywood Movies.
