It should be noted that Joe was going to have the best rookie QB season ever if he hadn’t gotten hurt.

While we’re only halfway through the 2020 NFL season, it’s becoming clear that rookie quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert have bright futures ahead of them.

Burrow, the No. 1 overall pick by way of the Cincinnati Bengals, has thrown for 2,272 yards while accounting for 14 total touchdowns and registering a QBR of 79+ in three straight games.

Herbert, the No. 6 overall pick to the Los Angeles Chargers, has accounted for 2,146 passing yards and 19 total touchdowns. He’s also registered a QBR of 75+ in five of his first seven professional games.

The way these two are playing, they’d be NFL MVP candidates if they played for winning teams. Unfortunately, their teams have combined to win just three times in games they started this season, so they’ll have to settle for a shot at NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The latest odds from BetOnline have Burrow and Herbert tied for the best odds to win the award (11-10 odds). The next closest player is Tua Tagovailoa, the No. 5 overall pick to the Miami Dolphins (5-1). However, Tagovailoa has started just two games thus far, so he’ll need to thoroughly outplay Burrow and Herbert for the rest of the season to win the award.

The one thing Tua does have going for him is he plays for a Dolphins team that’s currently 5-3 and strongly in the mix for a playoff spot.

In fact, Miami will host the Chargers this week, as well as the Bengals in Week 13. If Tua wants to become a stronger contender for this award, winning those matchups with Herbert and Burrow could certainly shake up these odds.
